I. Introduction to Rankings Philosophy
The basic philosophy behind the way OCW rankings work is one of fairness for all. Being a competitive created wrestler federation, OCW has rankings based on each wrestler's performance and nothing else.
Rankings now have 3 major components: Ranking Points (hereafter referred to as RPs), Wins (actual wins), and Win Percentage (Win%, the ratio of wins to total matches a wrestler has had). When all new information is added, rankings are sorted first by ranking points, then by win percentage, then by total wins. This is because the ranking points reflect a wrestler's total performance, not just his wins. Win percentage is a general look at how successful a wrestler is, and in the case of the first two tying, the number of wins is used to break the tie, and if the rankings are still tied, well, they're tied.
Ranking points, as a general rule, cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred. There are very few exceptions to this- if a wrestler leaves the fed, his points go with him; new wrestlers begin with 50 points; occasionally, the OCW booker will book a match where extra points are awarded, and the like. It's very rare, but it happens. But generally, ranking points will not be created or destroyed during the process of ranking a match/event.
II. Ranking General Procedures/Divisions
For most matches, each active participant antes up 1 RP into an imaginary "pot". The winning participant/team divides the pot equally after the match. Wins and losses, on the other hand, are simply given out as 1 win and 1 loss per match, depending on who wins the match and the number of participants.
After the overall rankings are done, there are also the various OCW divisions to consider. Occasionally some are added or subtracted, but matches that qualify as a particular division's match type are added to that division's rankings. The following are qualifications for each division:
Cruiserweight- All wrestlers in the match must be cruiserweight or light heavyweight.
X-Violence- The match must be a one where either weapons or the environment can be legally used to hurt the opponent. Elimination chambers matches can also count.
Tag- The match must contain tag teams and tag teams only. This means no six-man tag matches with tag team included. (Ex.- Samoan Headhunters & Teabag vs. Legion & Chupacabra would not count toward Tag Team Division rankings.)
III. Ranking Procedures by Match Type
This section is a general handbook detailing how matches are ranked. As with anything, there are always exceptions, notably when managers are involved in a match as active participants, but we'll get to that.
Except for those noted below, all matches are ranked in the following manner:
All wrestlers involved contribute 1 RP to the pot
The winner(s) take/equally share the pot and gain 1 win to their record
The loser(s) gain 1 loss to their record
Ties result in all RPs being returned to their owners and gaining 1 tie to their record
Any match concerning eliminations:
In an elimination match, the following rules are observed.
When any wrestler is eliminated, the person eliminated loses 1 point, and the wrestler(s) who eliminated them gain/equally split 1 point
The eventual winner(s) of the match gain 1 win
The loser(s) of the match gain 1 loss
Ironman Matches:
The winner gains 1 win
The loser(s) gain 1 loss
The final score determines the number of ranking points gained and lost. The formula is as follows:
((The winner's # of falls - the lowest loser's # of falls (in case of ironmans featuring more than 2 participants)) / 2) * the number of losers = the number of ranking points awarded to the winner. Divide this number by the number of losers to determine how many points are lost by each losers.
Backstage Attacks:
During any backstage attack, there are no wins or losses. However, the winner will gain 1 RP and the loser will lose 1 RP. Additionally, there may be consequences to a backstage attack. (See Attack Consequence Table HERE)
IV. Managers
Managers are a tricky addition to the OCW roster. Since a genuine manager only has starting stats and no possibility to gain points and are therefore weaker than wrestlers, managers do not affect rankings at all when they are in matches, UNLESS they are an active participant. Then, they only affect the rankings if both sides of the match are equal, and they do not affect the number of RPs given for the match (if it's even possible). However, if both sides of the match are equal, then and only then may a manager gain wins/losses and ranking points, and they do so normally.
For example:
Zachary Ragsdale III (manager) backstage attacks D. Carter (OCW staff, which are technically managers) and defeats him. Ragsdale gains 1 RP and Carter loses one. If this were a regular singles match, Ragsdale would also gain 1 win while Carter gained 1 loss.
But, say Fofua (wrestler) and Ragsdale (manager) tag teamed against the Bludworths (both wrestlers). Fofua is at a disadvantage due to his less able partner, and so wins and losses can be scored for the match, but only Fofua would be able to gain RPs. Therefore, if Fofua's side won, Fofua would gain 2 RPs (one from each opponent) while his opponents would lose 1 each. However, if Bludworths won, they would only gain .5 RP each, splitting the 1 RP that Fofua would ante.
Similarly, if a wrestler backstage attacks a manager- or vice versa- 1-on-1, no ranking points are exchanged because the fight isn't equal and can't be, and no wins or losses are scored because it's a backstage attack. Thus it is purely a storyline match- but one that can still see either character injured on the Attack Consequence Table.
