Disclaimer: As before, pics are courtesy of my wife's MySpace, and I'm writing this also as sort of a quickie journal for the future, so y'know- it's gonna be kind'a long and crap. You can visit the full album of the vacation HERE.]
Day 1: Sunday
Well, we took off about 3 in the morning, but didn't get on the road until 4 because of repeated attempts at getting breakfast. Long lines suck. Managed the nearly 13-hour drive without incident, except for a rock that flew up into the car and knocked out the air compressor for the air conditioning, so we had about 6 hours of rather warm travel.
And of course, there was the fact that Tamara was driving.
Once we got there, we found that we had a really nice lil apartment-style setup, which was cool. The back of each room in the place had a balcony with an ocean view, which was AWESOME.
After 13 hours of travel, we pretty much sacked out and called it a night.
Day 2: Monday
We grabbed some grub from this lil mom 'n' pop dive that came highly recommended, and while the tiny building was crap, the food was unbelievable! The seafood omelet contained just enough eggs to barely cover the mounds of shrimp, crabmeat and cheese inside- it was awesome! I also noticed that apparently, some WWE dudes had came through at some point...
We got back and hit the beach. Warning: scary fat guy pics ahead!!!
Don't ask my why my son flashes gang signs in each pic. Different ones each time, too.
So we head out, grab dinner and come back for some nighttime pool swimmin' and hot tubbin'!
Day 3: Tuesday
Tams got up early and grabbed some early morning pics of the sunrise while she took a morning walk...
...then she let us sleep in while she went and dropped off the car to be fixed.
Later on, we ate at this fabulous lil place, the Inlet Harbor Restaurant. It was right there on the docks, and everything was fresh, and naturally the seafood was the best I've ever had. They had aquariums on the inside, the whole nine yards- really nice place.
Outside, they had a bar with live music, a gift shop, and a neat lil pirate ship for the kiddies. (And Tamara.)
We checked out the docks, where a whole MESS of pelicans had swarmed.
Day 4: Wednesday
Today we got up and decided to do some actual touristy stuff. We started off with a visit to a local lighthouse, which was awesome, until I remembered that I'm terrified of heights. Go figure.
We came back down and checked out the other stuff on the property- they had a boat, a buoy and some weights, and a nice little nature trail, as well as a building housing some lighthouse lenses that were awesome.
Next, we hit up the Marine Science Center. It was small, but had a lot of injured animals that were recovering, like an iguana that lost his paws to a car and a lot of hurt and sick sea turtles.
With Benjamin exhausted, we retired back to our pad and napped, hit the beach a lil later on, swam in the pool, and finally hit the sack.
Day 5: Thursday
On our last full day, we figured we'd get some grub and do a dolphin tour. Unfortunately, we hardly saw any dolphins. Add in that I'd gotten some waterproof sunscreen lotion in one of my eyes, and the 2 hour boat ride was pretty craptastic. Damn dolphins. LOL
A little earlier in the day, Ben and Tamara had ran into a local Wal-Mart so Ben could answer a pressing call of nature, so I drove around the parking lot. At the far end, I found a Lamborghini. I FRIGGIN' LAMBORGHINI. AT WAL-MART.
Anyway. More swimming... you know the drill.
Day 6: Friday
Before we left, Tamara forced us to drive north and see what was up there- basically some trendy crap that was the same as everything that was near us at the hotel. She also had to have some pics at the Daytona Speedway:
We headed north and stopped in Norcross, Atlanta, where we dined on Chinese Buffet cuisine and nabbed a map so we could find out how close we were in proximity to VCJ & his wife, Minda. Luck hit a few times- we were sort of close to Newnan, GA, where I thought he lived, but it ended up they'd bought a house in Stone Mountain (Jake "the Snake" FTW!!!). And of course, there's the fact that I actually caught him online on his MySpace, because I had no other way to get a hold of him at the time, so I sent a PM, MySpace message and email to him. He called us, we made arrangements to do lunch the next day, and the rest... as they say... is history!
I'll detail that in a separate post here in a sec.
