For Ladiz Only - F.L.O.
Not to toot my own horn, we was the shit in Flint Mi. We started out in late 1992, where I was drafted into the group. We had several line-ups, having as many as six in the group. The group in the picture is the long-standing group, that made the most noise.
Being from Flint, we envied the group Ready For The World, but also admired those old 90 R & B groups like Boyz II Men, Jodeci, and Dru Hill. Whatever song was played on the radio, we learned it and performed it at whatever talent show or showcase that would have us. We won a couple too.
The Members were
Me...Johnny...FK as you all know me (in the glasses) age 20
J-Gib (the pretty boy in the front, also the baby of the group at 16)
J-Wil (Big guy in front, basically wrote all the songs) age 18
T-Mac (The guy with the high-top fade on the left)(has the church singing voice) age 18
Mike B (my best friend growing up, had the harmony blend like no other)(Mr. muscle in the middle) age 19
These were my people, everyday all day. I loved these dudes. We went through the fire and the rain, the good and the bad.
On Jan. 20, 1995, Michael Blackamore aka Mike B, was gunned down as he was walking to work. We think it was a robbery gone bad. I don't really know. It is a really touchy subject for me. as my best friend, and potential brother in law, I used to take him to work all the time. that day, I told him I couldn't because i was going to a high school basketball game. He told me it was all good, he would walk like he would do sometimes. He never made it. He probably wouldn't want me too, but I carry the guilt with me until the day i die. He was my best friend, and I still miss him very much.
Anyway, after that incident, the group just didn't feel it anymore. we tried doing more, but life happened and we got kids and eventually wives and F.L.O. became more of a hobby than a lifelong dream for most of us. J-Gib moved to california where he joined up with a few guys and made a few albums.
Moral: Never give up on your dreams. You never know what could happen.
BTW.....stop laughing at my picture!
