Genre: Movie-themed trivia game
Opinion: Can I get a w00t w00t!
The Jiggity:
Yeah, you might'a played some of the various Scene It games out there on DVD, but bah Gawd, King, you ain't played it like this!
(Okay, maybe you have, I haven't played the DVD ones, but still, I'm bettin' this one's prettier and more fun, dammit!)
For those that haven't played it (and if you have a 360, download that thar demo, dammit), Scene It! is a movie trivia game that, frankly, is just fun as shit. The 360 version comes with 4 little controllers and a USB infrared sensor that you plug in and point towards wherever you're playing from, and the controllers basically have a combo buzz-in/directional pad button and 4 answer buttons, as well as the typical guide button and the back and start buttons. Basically, it's a 360 controller minus the analog sticks and shoulder buttons.
The game goes to a category of which there are a zillion, it seems like, each of which has a different kind of question. You may be guessing movie titles from quotes, or from pictures that get slowly drawn on-screen, watching movie clips and answering questions about them- all sorts of stuff. Questions are time-based, so the quicker you answer, the more points you get (or lose, if you get them wrong), and are usually worth 2000 points.
If you're a movie buff of any sort at all, you'll love it. The movies included in the questions range from the ol' black and white movies to (in the case of one question we ran into) 2008 titles that haven't been announced as far as I know, much less come out.
It's hard to get across how much fun this game really is. The random format and various questions are just amazingly fun, and everything is presented in a really nice, stylistic way that just rocks.
Additionally, the game saves a record of what questions you've seen and which ones you haven't, so you're pretty much guaranteed not to see the same questions over until you've played through them all, and according to the box, there are thousands of questions (which I totally believe, lol).
The game plays through 3 rounds with several gameplay sets each (depending on what mode you play), at the end of which you get awards that add points for various gameplay stats, like quickest correct answer, 3 answers in a row, etc. Awards net you more points, which naturally, you want. If you like winning, anyway.
After the third round, you watch one more movie clip and answer 4 final questions. (Or maybe it's 5, pretty sure it's 4.) Each correct answer nets you a score multiplier up to 10x, but a missed answer drops you back down to 1x. I actually had Tamara beat me at the very end by a paltry 6000 points because she nailed the 10x multiplier and answered 1 question for just under 20,000 points.
If you like party games, or you just have film buffs in the family (or are one yourself), Scene It! LCS should be a no-brainer. It's excellent fun for the entire family and is just pure distilled trivia awesomeness!
God, I hope they make more of 'em.
