Time for another PHENOMENAL game review. (Screw you Riles) Anyone who can read Spanish knows what game is on the chopping block this time:
Army Of Two
I'll start out with the games best point, the graphics. At some points I forgot I was playing a game and thought I was watching a movie. The graphics are excellent, especially the skin and character details. Facial expressions are flawless and each character has specific traits and details that set them apart from everyone else, so you don't think you're just staring at the same model with just a different skin slapped on. The only real flaws in the graphics are when you have a bigger weapon like the RPG on your back and it'll just seem to sink into walls and crates, but that's in almost every game. Bottom line: the graphics are damn near perfect.
Another high point of the game is the wide array of weaponry you have in your arsenal. You have three categories of weapons to choose from: First off is your Primary Section, these weapons include the M-16, AK-47, and various types of shotguns. Next is your Secondary Section, which consists of pistols, machine pistols, and SMGs. Finally there is the Special Section which has sniper rifles and rocket launchers. Each gun handles different and each have their own strengths and weaknesses, and with Army Of Two's upgrade and customization system, you can tinker and tweak your gun to where it's just perfect for you. Don't like enemies shooting at you? Attach the suppressor so they don't notice you right away. Want to have better protection from headshots? Slap a shield onto your gun. (Yes, I'm serious. You can attach a shield to your gun) Want enemies to notice you more? Pimp out your gun with gold and bling. (Again, not kidding) Some of the higher tier weapons are a bit overestimated though. The ultimate primary weapon you can get, an M134 Minigun, has a 200 round clip and its damage is almost completely however maxed out. However, that max damage is nigh worthless if you can't HIT anybody with it. It's accuracy is abysmal and you'll need that 200 round clip to hopefully get a lucky shot on an enemy before you use up the clip and have to reload!
And there's one certain aspect about the weapons of this game that just pisses me off more than any other and that is ammo management. Enemies will randomly drop packs of ammo for one of your three weapons. However, the kind of ammo they'll drop is totally random. You could be scrapping the bottom of ammo for your primary weapon, but the enemies refuse to drop ammo for it. It's a frustrating and annoying tendency that will kill you more than any of the enemies in the game when enemies refuse to drop ammo for your best weapon!
Now we come to the point really begins to come down, the AI. The AI is so horrible at points, it only adds to the difficulty of the game. Worst in the AI department is your partner. If you want this partner to advance, you have to tell him to. If you want him to hold position, you have to tell him to. He does nothing on his own accord except sit around and look dumb. To add to the stupidity, if you tell him to advance, he won't advance slowly and carefully, no, he'll run right into an enemy position, get himself riddled with bullets and force you to go in and save his ass! Health in the game is much like Gears Of War; you get hit, the screen turns red. It turns completely red, you drop to your knees. Now unlike Gears Of War, in Army Of Two when you drop to your knees, you have about one minute of life left. Your minute runs out, you die and start from the last checkpoint. This equals to your partner having one minute to find you, drag you to a safe area, administer medical aid, and you're up and fighting again. Even though it sounds like a short amount of time, it's pretty easy to get your partner back up and fighting again. Now, note that "drag you to a safe area" part. Your AI partner has this really bad habit of dragging you INTO enemy fire when you go down, resulting in him going to his knees as well and you completely failing the mission. The AI of your partner is always set on the retarded setting.
The saving grace of this is that the game is co-op and having a second human playing makes the game so much easier to play and enjoy. So if you have a friend that likes shooters, grab him, stick the controller in his hands and get ready, 'cause there's a lot of enemies to shoot. To enjoy this game to it's fullest, you are required to have a friend playing co-op with you. It's not that bad a game, you just require a second human.
So what rating do I give Army Of Two?
3 out of 5
