So even though I don't play it as much as I used to, I've picked up all of the downloadable content for SoulCalibur IV except for the original SoulCalibur soundtrack, because let's face it, that's just rubbish. Figured I'd write up a quick review.
Right off the bat, I bought the special edition, which was touted as having extra items for character creation. This is bullshit; it's the same content that's available in the game, but you get some of the bigger pieces unlocked at the beginning, which is nice because you don't have to go through that stupid Tower of Souls unless you're just a completist.
The first DLC pack was a set of character creation pieces from previous SoulCalibur games, most prominently 2. Actually, I think all of the pieces where from 2, because they were all very familiar (and I still have 2), and I never got to play 3. Overall, it was a good set, and only cost 100 MS points, or about $1.20. The only bitch that I have is, it's already on the disc; the download is like 108kb- basically, you're paying to unlock content that's finished and sitting on your disk, unplayable. And that, my friends, is just shitty. Anyway, here's a list of what you get that I gaffled from another site:
* Devil's Mask - +30 ATK, -20 DEF, +30 HP. Astaroth's 2P mask from Soul Calibur II
* Tsurugi Shiragame - +10 DEF, +25 HP, 20 Gauge, 20 Special. (Yoshimitsu costume part).
* Iron Mask - +15 ATK, +30 DEF, 20 Boost. Voldo's Alien mask from Soul Calibur II
* Scorpion - +20 DEF, +15 HP, 20 Impact, 20 Gauge. Another Voldo mask.
* Nightmare Helm Torment - +20 DEF, +20 HP, 20 Impact. Nightmare's 1P helmet from Soul Calibur
* Nightmare Helm Misery - +20 ATK, +20 HP, 20 Gauge. Nightmare's 1P helmet from Soul Calibur II
* Nightmare Helm Agony - -5 ATK, +40 HP, 20 Special.
* Clown Mask - +30 DEF, +20 HP. Voldo's 2P mask from Soul Calibur. Voldo-only.
* Goddess' Blessing - -15 ATK, +40 DEF, +10 HP, 35 Impact, 35 Special. Sophitia's 3P chest armor from Soul Calibur. Female accessory.
The second DLC pack was a complete and total ripoff. I think it was around 200 pts- so about $2.40- and was listed as a "Halloween" character creation pack. So what awesome parts do you get? A crappy "Headless Horseman" pumpkin head, a cape (when there are already a few in the game), and a 2-piece frilly women's outfit. 4 pieces. All suckage. Here's a link if you want pics.

And once more, the download was 108kb- unlocking stuff that's already on the game disc.
And now, the main reason I'm writing this: The Darth Vader DLC. For $5 (400 pts), you can finally have the PS3-exclusive Darth Vader in the game, rounding out the Star Wars combatants to a roster of 3. (And you can snag Yoda on the PS3 now.) But is he worth it?
In my opinion, definitely, but I really dig Star Wars. Whereas Yoda was purely a 'gimmick' character that basically broke the game- too short to hit with any high hits unless he jumped, couldn't be thrown, damned fast- Vader is a power player that comes in and just stomp stomp stomps that ass. He isn't fast; he's find of somewhere between the medium-sized weapon users (i.e. Mitsurugi) and the larger sword users (Nightmare, Siegfried). He wields his lightsaber in a 2-handed style like he's got himself a much larger sword than he has, and has some finesse moves, but for the most part he hacks away at you. He has some force powers including a force blast that's awesome and hard to escape and a force choke that levitates and slams your opponent, but he also has an awesome sort of "force stumble" that just makes your opponent stumble for a second if hit, allowing you to move in for one of his 'hack that shit off' combos.
If you're still playing SoulCalibur IV and enjoy it, or you're just anal about things like this, Vader's a good addition to the roster- MUCH better than Yoda. He looks awesome, sharp and detailed, coming with his traditional outfit and a non-caped version that still has a smaller under-cape that goes over the back of his legs, and lighter-colored shoulderpads and boots. He has a lot of power, but he isn't 'broken' powerful, as he has a LOT of trouble with faster opponents.
Best of all, while I know the character was on the disc- there's some hackers that unlocked him a while back on a hacked 360- the download wasn't tiny, running around 5mb. I don't know if this was just junk data to keep people from griping, but I like to think that it was data to give him an ending and whatnot, so he's playable in Story Mode, unlike some of the characters you could unlock back in 2- Lizardman, the Gladiators, etc. But I might just be being a little optimistic there.
Overall, the DLC is all relatively overpriced, especially for items that are already at least mostly finished and sitting on the disc, waiting to be unlocked. But for the SoulCalibur fan, the only thing I wouldn't recommend is the Halloween DLC- it's complete crap and excessively overpriced considering that you get over twice as many pieces with the first pack that was released, which was half the price.
