If you like the PSP title of the same name, the PS2 game is even better. Cleaner (but still simplistic) graphics are more than adequate for this little arena fighter, which is the true sequel to Twisted Metal 2, which many folks (myself included) still consider the best entry in the series.
And it feels like TM2 all the way through. If you liked Twisted Metal 2, you need this game, that's all there is to it.
But the real reason for the mega-aficionados to pick this up is the extra Twisted Metal: Lost bit. This is what was developed of Twisted Metal: Harbor City, a.k.a. Twisted Metal: Black 2, before the six head developers, returning from a ski trip, were killed in a plane crash. After much public demand, they decided to release the material as a separate 'game' on the disk, and it has all of the classic Twisted Metal gameplay, even if it only has 3 levels and no storyline to speak of.
Additionally, there is the Sweet Tour, where you control Sweet Tooth on foot for a tour through various TM media, and copies of the original Twisted Metal's ending videos, which were cut from the final game. (You might remember that after winning the original, you were 'treated' to a screen of text telling what happened to the winning character. These are a helluva lot better than that, LOL.) They're definitely bad copies off of a damaged tape, but it's very, very cool to see that they actually had a guy in a Sweet Tooth costume for his ending. Very awesome.
And there's a booklet of various Twisted Metal art, mostly from Lost.
No Twisted Metal fan should be without this game. It may not look the best, but the gameplay is unparalleled, and the extras only point to the coolness that is on the horizon, when the new Twisted Metal title releases for the PS3. And you can snag it for $20 or less!
For those with an 80gb with PS2 software emulation for backwards compatibility, please be aware that the game will play fine on your system, but the menus throughout do have some graphic glitching. No such glitching pops up during gameplay, though.
