Okay, so having played through the first 3% of the game, here's my take.
First off, play the demo. If you like the demo, you like the game, because it's just more of that.
If you've played through the complete demo, I'll start off by saying this: the demo is basically a reworked first 3% of the game- that's how far it says I am through the game, I'm not just pulling numbers out of my ass. SOME DEMO SPOILERS FOLLOW, but it's not like it's major plot point stuff.
Basically, in the demo, you get into a few fights, run into Zsasz, get into a few more fights, take down a room full of baddies and then there's a big 'boss'-type fella at the end cutscene, end of demo.
In the game, you start off with a cutscene where you (in control) walk with the Joker as he's taken into the bowels of Arkham Asylum. The action starts off the same as the demo, basically right up until after you run into Zsasz.
After Zsasz there's a few different parts (won't go into details, I don't want to spoil anything about the experience, but it's pretty cool), and you run into that boss-type guy, who ends up not really being that much of a boss. There's a quick bit with Harley Quinn (no, you don't get to fight her yet), some more fighting, and then you finally get to the room of goons from the demo.
You beat down the first set of goons- which is where the demo ends with the boss guy- and a second set appear. That's about how far I am right now; I got my ass handed to me by the second set, as I missed a glide kick and got mercilessly gunned down.
I also unlocked a challenge map, which you get as you run through the game. The challenge maps appear to be pretty much a way for the developers to show off the extremely impressive melee combat system, because that's pretty much all it is- a bunch of combat. Points are scored, leaderboards are up, etc.
Just so you all know, the demo is pretty much straight-up indicative of what the game is like. Aside from a few extra fights and 'scenes,' the demo is more or less the majority of the first 3% of the game, except as you play, you gain experience, and that experience lets you unlock a multitude of upgrades to help Batman kick the asses of Arkham's 'finest.'
I won't bother breaking anything down. Graphics are top-notch all the way, level design is more or less linear but well done, character design, control, sound, absolutely everything is top notch. The story sucks you in and you just want to keep on playing and playing, but I have to pick up Ben from school shortly, so here I be.
Best game of the year so far, bar none. Absolutely awesome. Go pick it up Tuesday when the street date isn't so much broken, LOL.
