Okay, I'm posting this so that there's a complete, official post of what's going on this year.
The biggest change this year is simply that we're moving from the dull-ass WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series to the Wrestling MPire 2008 engine on the PC.
The reasoning behind this is simple. Over the last two years, three main factors have caused OCW to stagnate and become dull, lifeless, and boring. They are the following:
1. The Proliferation of Game-Simmed Efeds. When OCW began almost 7 years ago, game-simmed efedding was in its infancy, so to speak, and for the most part feds were different, each offering something new and exciting. These days, there are a ton of half-assed, lazy, generic efeds out there, and in a nutshell the better feds are getting lost in the sea of mediocrity. Every idiot and halfwit with an internet connection thinks that they have what it takes to create and/or run a fantasy wrestling efed without taking five seconds to wonder whether or not they SHOULD. IF YOU DON'T BRING ANYTHING NEW OR ORIGINAL TO THE TABLE, THEN YOUR EFED IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEATH OF THE FEW GOOD, SOLID EFEDS STILL OUT THERE. [/color]OCW can't get new, fresh blood that's worth having, OCW stagnates, and it all just becomes a chore instead of a hobby for everyone involved.
2. Game-Imposed Restrictions. For the last two years, the restrictions imposed by the games themselves- no control over stats, no copying/trading caws, etc.- have limited the number of available slots in OCW and basically kept us from any attempts at active recruiting. Again- no new blood worth having, stagnant. Wrestling MPire 2008 offers us a 50-slot initial roster, and if I can figure out the source code, potentially more.
3. Lackadaisical Members. More and more, the members that we HAVE had have failed in their membership duties to keep the fed going. We've had to basically beg for promos, and we just got fucking tired of it. If people don't want to be here, they shouldn't be here, and now, thanks to the way things will be set up, they won't be here. As we're bringing in a set of NPCs to populate the joint until membership picks up, I'm good with having a few good players over a lot of dull, bored/boring ones.
We are going to a more relaxed schedule and way of playing all around. There will be no set schedule for shows aside from what's posted in the calendar. Promos will still be required weekly, and enforced on top of that, BUT a wrestler can spend their newly-earned cash to avoid being penalized for it.
This is all being done not to engender bad feelings or just to be dickheads in general; this is being done because the main people that have been doing the work behind running the fed- for the most part, myself and Werwulf- are sick and tired of the fed being a chore and being a lot of work and very little fun. We would rather have a cast of NPCs that we've grown to love and let them go at each other like a Hall of Fame battlethon than have 15-20 people here that basically refuse to do anything.
The Rant:
If this sounds like we're/I'm pissed, it's because I am. I'm not going to speak for other people, but especially this last year, I put a lot of work into the fed to try to make it enjoyable for the members we had, and the majority of the members couldn't be bothered to post a few lines here and there to keep things going. I love OCW, but I do NOT love what it's become in the last two years, and if people can't be bothered to simply promo, then they won't be here. No more begging for promos, period. And you all know who you are. I'm not talking about people that had problems promoing occasionally; I'm talking about the people that just couldn't be bothered to do it hardly at all, that went literally MONTHS without writing a couple of lines.
Overall, OCW will now be more about a fun, competitive roleplaying experience, doing things that few other feds can claim.
That's about it. If you have a gripe, question, suggestion, etc. about this post and the info contained therein, feel free to PM me or simply post your thoughts in the Discussion area. Thank you.
