Hey guys, I'm just posting here cause I need everyone's help really. Me and my group are doing an assignment for uni, and we need to make a questionnaire so we get real results. I'd much appreciate it if you could find the time to help me and answer these multi-choice questions, cheers every one. 1) If you have a child/children, would you buy an over-aged game for them (say like GTA or MW2)? Y or N 2) If you knew what content was in the over-aged game, would you still buy it for your child? Y or N 3) Do you think violent games influence kids to copy what they see on the screen? Y or N 4) Do you think the media overhype a story when a violent game is reported to "influence" the murderer? Y or N 5) Can playing video games be very addictive or as a hobby/past-time? Addictive or Hobby/P-T 6) How many hours do you spend playing on your console/PC per day? 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, 4-6 hours or 6+ Thank you guys again

1) If you have a child/children, would you buy an over-aged game for them (say like GTA or MW2)? Y or NAbsolutely not. However, I would allow my child to play a slightly over-aged game if I had played through myself in advance and knew of any objectionable material; i.e., Ben, who is 6, is completely in love with SoulCalibur. 2) If you knew what content was in the over-aged game, would you still buy it for your child? Y or NEr... well, I think I covered this above, but absolutely not. Unless I've actually played through the game before and know exactly what's in it and have experienced it myself, my kids do not play any overaged games. 3) Do you think violent games influence kids to copy what they see on the screen? Y or NNo. My son loves anything martial arts-related, and even if he didn't play any of the video games he does, he would still be swinging plastic swords and other junk when playing. He knows the difference between what you can do in a game and what would be wrong and hurt people in reality. 4) Do you think the media overhype a story when a violent game is reported to "influence" the murderer? Y or NAbsolutely, but they've pretty much cooled off on that in light of several studies that have shown that there isn't any link between games and violent behavior. I believe it's the other way around; inherently violent people are drawn to more violent forms of entertainment. Your kid didn't open fire on a college campus because he played Manhunt; your kid played Manhunt because he wanted to kill a bunch of people. 5) Can playing video games be very addictive or as a hobby/past-time? Addictive or Hobby/P-TThat's sort of silly; it can be either. That's like asking if drinking alcohol can be casual or addictive; the answer is both. 6) How many hours do you spend playing on your console/PC per day? 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, 4-6 hours or 6+Overall average probably 2-4 hours, but I've went over a month without any desire to play one a couple of times in the last year, and I've sat and played the same game for 10 hours at a stretch (recently). Kind of hard to gauge. Thank you guys again No problem.

1) If you have a child/children, would you buy an over-aged game for them (say like GTA or MW2)? Y or N
Yes, dependent upon certain factors such as age of the child and content.
2) If you knew what content was in the over-aged game, would you still buy it for your child? Y or N
Depends, again the age and content comes into play. In most cases I would lean toward the yes.
3) Do you think violent games influence kids to copy what they see on the screen? Y or N
No. Chups kinda covered this with his example. Kids will act a certain way no matter what they've seen or been subjected to. I've known kids who parents sheltered them from any type of violence/magic/fantasy/etc kind of game or movie, and yet the child was still a violent lil prick. Real life is what influences kids. Games are just an easy scape goat.
4) Do you think the media over hype a story when a violent game is reported to "influence" the murderer? Y or N
Unquestionably yes. Again, games are an easy scape goat when either parents, society, or just the person responsible refuse to claim responsibility. "Oh it was obviously GTA that made lil Johnny kill all those people, not the fact his daddy beat him and his mommy constantly and spoke of how all 'those hippies' needed shot." Extreme example yes, but it sadly happens.
And then there is of course the simple fact as Chupa stated; "inherently violent people are drawn to more violent forms of entertainment". It's easier and 'more neatly packaged' to blame a game then admit something was wrong with the person who committed the act.
5) Can playing video games be very addictive or as a hobby/past-time? Addictive or Hobby/P-T
Both.
6) How many hours do you spend playing on your console/PC per day? 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, 4-6 hours or 6+
....Do I really have to answer this one?? Really? Fark... On a day that I'm busy, average around 4-6...if I'm not busy, 6+ -_- Damn you WoW...

1) If you have a child/children, would you buy an over-aged game for them (say like GTA or MW2)? Y or N
I dont have any kids but i do have a nephew who i try to watch what he plays and he knows which games i approve of and which ones i dont but it also depends on the game. I wouldnt let him play GTA or Gears, but i do let him play COD. Even tho all 3 games are rated M.
2) If you knew what content was in the over-aged game, would you still buy it for your child? Y or N
No, it would depend on the game. GTA, Gears etc a big fat no. But i dont mind him playing COD.
3) Do you think violent games influence kids to copy what they see on the screen? Y or N
I dont think so , i think to some affect it can change a child. I do notice a change in my nephew when he watches wrestling. So to say it doesnt completely have an affect on a child isnt really true. But i dont think every violent case that has games involved can be blame on a game. I think games are equal to a serial killer who starts off killing animals and move on to ppl. The child who shoots up his school probably started of blastin virutal people before blastin real ones.
4) Do you think the media over hype a story when a violent game is reported to "influence" the murderer? Y or N
Very much ....even when theres no connection between it.
5) Can playing video games be very addictive or as a hobby/past-time? Addictive or Hobby/P-T
I think this question should be re-worded differently becasue it basically can be both. I think we can look to South Korea and see how games can truly become an addiction.
6) How many hours do you spend playing on your console/PC per day? 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, 4-6 hours or 6+
0-2 ... i dont play as much as i use to. But i do have a few days where i can go full days but average its a lil under 2 hours.

1) If you have a child/children, would you buy an over-aged game for them (say like GTA or MW2)? Y or N
Depends on the game really. Honestly I played some rated M games growing up and I didn't really have a problem. I think if the kid is well informed it would be ok. Of course my decision is also affected by the age of my kid.
2) If you knew what content was in the over-aged game, would you still buy it for your child? Y or N
I think I answered that already in my first question.
3) Do you think violent games influence kids to copy what they see on the screen? Y or N
No, I think your average kid is smart enough to realize that a game is just that a game.
4) Do you think the media overhype a story when a violent game is reported to "influence" the murderer? Y or N
Yes, 100% on this one. If a kid plays a game it doesn't mean that are going to be violent, or try to reinact the game. If it's at the point where the kid is doing something stupid like that it's the parents fault for not stepping in at some point and seeing that there kid as a problem. the media is just looking for excuses and something to point at saying it's the game or movies fault for the kids behavior when in reality of the parent was paying the proper attention to the kid problems could be avoided.
5) Can playing video games be very addictive or as a hobby/past-time? Addictive or Hobby/P-T
I think it depends on the person and the background behind the person. If a kid is left to do nothing but play video games all the time and isn't forced to do something else then I think it grows into addiction.
6) How many hours do you spend playing on your console/PC per day? 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, 4-6 hours or 6+
Depends on if I have a good game to play. With Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 I spent a good 8-12 hours after work playing the game until I beat them. However on average I probably spend something like 2-4 a day when I don't have something good to play.
