Okay everyone, hi and welcome to our first for-rizzle announcement about OCW's upcoming 2010 season.
We have a LOT of changes coming this season. Some you might like. Some you might hate. But OCW has always tried to put something unique out there, to bring in people who are tired of the crap efeds that don't offer anything different, feds that just sit there and stagnate and turn into shit.
For the last couple of years, we ran up against a brick wall, starting with SvR08. The game took away massive amounts of control without giving anything back. Additionally it capped off our roster, so we didn't actively recruit anyone. Legends disappeared and new people came, but many of those new people just sat around and didn't really do a lot, and some of them fell by the wayside- or were actively removed- as well.
This year, for the first time, OCW will NOT be using a console game as its game engine. We are moving to a modded version of the TWC4 mod for MDickie's Wrestling MPire 2008 Management Edition. I have spent the last week replacing textures like crazy in order to provide us with what is, for all intents and purposes, the absolute closest thing we'll have to a specific OCW videogame engine.
We have our own ads throughout the arena. We have our own ring canvases and aprons. We have our own video stills on the video screens during matches, and we even have ads for some of our own products.
Everything that can be made specifically OCW has been, to a point. There is still some work to be done, but the biggest part is finished enough that we can begin working on getting our shit together to roll out, guns blazin'!
For those unfamiliar with this game- and I know we've talked about it recently in other posts, including the "The OCW That Almost Was" thread- this game carries with it several features almost unheard of in a wrestling game. Physics that allow interaction with parts of the arena, items and weaponry that you just don't get anywhere else. Interaction with other wrestlers that's unheard of. Throw someone into someone else and they react. If something explodes, a person will be thrown. Suplex someone out of the ring and out they go. Piledrive someone onto a chair and not only is there a reaction, but they do take extra damage. And sometimes, your characters just blow a spot, and can screw up even climbing into the ring- it's based on stats and adds a real-world, nothing-is-perfect edge that makes each match unique and a delight.
Limb removal. Injuries. Blood. Even death.
As well as complete control over the roster without having to sit through ungodly load times and a shitload of menus. We can make anyone, we can do anything. No, it doesn't look as good as the console heavies, but this will be the beginning of a new age for people who want some FUN in the game.
That said, here's a video of a few matches, to let you know what's possible. (Yes, it's long, and no, it's not perfect- I know the sound is out of sync- but it shows what's possible.)

Now that this is all out of the bag, here's the best part.
I will be putting together a formula template as well as instructions on how to put together your wrestler. I will have this information up by this weekend. By next weekend, we kick things off and go full throttle.
One interesting note: this game, and its Career Edition counterpart, are now freeware. What does this mean? It means that I can link you straight to the fully-modded Career Edition core for OCW. All you have to do is unzip it into any directory (except program files, this can cause problems), run the OCW Vram.exe in the folder, and you can start testing your characters and working on them in-game. Additionally, I can release further mods AND updates with characters, music and the like, and all you have to do is download it and install it. It's that simple. (Management Edition will be made available for those that want it, but will at least at the beginning be privately transferred for simmers only.)
Additionally, the game constantly changes the stats, depending on a wrestler's performance, injuries, etc. With this engine, I can distribute the changes after each and every show to provide you with an up-to-date OCW roster.

Along with the change in game engine, we're going to utilize the game's injury system to further our own mythos. After all, it's fantasy wrestling, isn't it? In this game, your character can be injured or lose limbs, from cosmetic to debilitating, to even death.
For this reason, we'll be starting up a salary system. Every match you participate in will earn your character cash depending on your standing in the fed, which will be evaluated and changed every month depending on rankings. Wins will net you extra cash. Losses will gain you less. Participating in dangerous matches will earn you hazard bonuses. This cash can be used to move your character's consciousness into a newly cloned body to repair injuries, or even to stave off death by uploading a backup of your consciousness into such a body. You can also use the money to purchases additional stat points. Or, you can just bank the cash, and see if you can become the richest wrestler in the federation! And injuries can be "bought out" so you don't have to miss shows.
We will still be moving past characters into the game to help populate it to a point, but contrary to what we were planning for SvR2010, promos WILL still be mandatory- however, now they will be stringently reinforced. Again, cash can be used to stave off punishment or a firing, but it'll cost you, and the more of a problem it is, the more it'll cost. Run out of cash and you'll have to float a loan from a fellow wrestler or accept your fate.
Specific information will be forthcoming in the next few days in the rules section and the CAW Arena. Get yourself in on the bottom floor, because OCW starts in 10 days!
