Okay... I dunno how many of you guys keep up with E3, but for me, this week every year is like Christmas time. I get giddy at the idea of all the cool shit that gets dangled in front of me, (usually) soon to be playable.
This year, not so much. It seemed like at least half of the big games were either leaked or previewed well before the show, and the majority of what was left over were either sequels that were expected eventually or crap.
Usually I watch all of the big 3's press conferences and speed through the rest, but I couldn't even watch Microsoft's. They turned Natal from something with megacool potential into something that looks like it's going to be a crappy Wiifest. (And renamed it Kinect. No no, I understand the "kinetic" + "connect" reference, ha ha, that's clever, but that's the most ignorant fucking videogame peripheral name since the Wii. Or the Power Glove. *sigh*) And that was the majority of their conference.
The only thing that really got me this year was that they finally got around to showcasing Twisted Metal, which hasn't been a surprise- they've mentioned it here and there in magazine articles and interviews, usually ones about different games- which sort of lessened what could've been a killer blow, and to be honest, while it looks fun, I just don't know. It doesn't look all that "Twisted Metal" to me, but we'll see.
I dunno, I know the week's only 2 days in, but nothing has really caught me so far. I spent Monday night downloading like every video I could see, and came away disappointed with most.
So how about you guys? How's E3 measuring up for you?

Im enjoying it, Kinect has got me interested, anybody who was expecting some awesome games out the gate was sadly mistaken a lot of it just shovelware but it does look interesting and the prospect and future of it looks promising. I like the entertainment aspect of it, the talking to it etc. But the games.. ehhh.... the water one looked fun....and the dance one seems cool. The animals i must admit... looks pretty cool <_< lol. But other than that was pretty bored with M$ conf.
Sony, i must admit was actually pretty good. Move has got me intrigued and they showed a ton of games during their conf. Not really a big fan of KZ so i wasnt interested in that one. But the move stuff they showed seems pretty cool. Not keen on the pricing but whatever. And the fact that the nunchuck doesnt come with the bundle seems like highway robbery but.. whatever. The sorcery game seeems fun, i really enjoyed when he was shaking up the bottle n then drunk it with the move remote, small but yet cool feature lol.
Nintendo, eh... kirby looks fun, i might actually buy a handheld this holiday with 3ds only becasue of the Dev support. I mean, RE in 3d? SF in 3d? RPGS in 3d? SOLD lol.
As far as the games i am looking forward to is Assassins Creed BH, only because i really like this series and will play each one that comes out. Glad Driver is BACK! WOOT! love that game on PS1 hope they take it back to the first one and not that craptastic part 3. GHOST RECON LOOKS FREAKING AMAZING!! WOOOOOOOOOOO lol.... Twisted Metal they only really showed the multiplayer aspect which looks fun as hell, so ill wait to see more before passing judgement i hope the story mode is cool, iv always enjoyed those with the twisted messed up endings lol.
All in all i was intrigued by the motion stuff, the new games being shown look decent. Waiting to see what Square shows off and Capcom, hopefully the dev who did Lost Odyssey shows something new. Hopefully LO 2 .. one can dream.

Finally just got through watching all of the press conferences from the big 3- I'd only seen snippets here and there up to this point as the main site I was downloading them from had the last two encoding forever- and I have to say, Sony wrapped this one up bigtime.
Nintendo didn't have anything to show but games that looked horrible and controlled somewhat badly, and a 3D handheld. Whoopie. Microsoft gambled just about everything on "Kinect" but all the games for it look like Wii rejects.
Sony comes out of the gate not only with the Move- which I really, really thought was going to be a piece of shit- but with software for it that actually looks intriguing and worth playing for more than 5 minutes for your average gamer.
Additionally, I hadn't seen the second part of the Twisted Metal demo, where they play the team-based Nuke mode, and that just looks sweet as all hell- and if it's any indication, makes it look like the campaign mode might just have a bit of that sandbox feel that I was looking for. Seeing different characters riding in vehicles that aren't theirs just makes me think hey, maybe they finally got it.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of games coming out that look pretty good. But as far as the press conferences go, Sony just kicked the shit out of everyone. They had more cool shit, simple as that.
Definitely going to be looking forward to the next Red Faction, Bulletstorm, Twisted Metal, and Heroes on the Move- that'll be the first Move game I'll be looking to get. There's some other cool stuff, but those are the big ones that really impressed me a good bit.
Now, I need to go back and wrap up Red Faction: Guerrilla. lol

Zelda, Kirby, and Mickey all looked pretty cool for Wii titles, i mean im not expecting 360 graphics when they show their stuff but it does look like fun. The zelda one didnt look to good with the control tho. Kinda choppy. I think both Move/Kinect look like they will both have a pretty good future in them. I can careless about the Move/Kinect enabled games now that are just crapware.. im waiting for real Devs to jump in to it. I wanna play Heavy Rain again with Move tho.

You hit the nail on the head- Zelda's control looked just awful. I didn't like the way Kirby looked (why go the "yarn" route? I mean, at least give people an option for real gfx instead of making their eyes bleed), and I had been looking forward to the Mickey game since reading up on it about a year ago in Game Informer, but both the presentation and the demo video on IGN.com just made it look sort of crappy.
It doesn't help that they mentioned that it was originally slated for the 360 and PS3 as well, but decided just to toss it on the Wii.
I dunno, I've been down on the Wii for a while. Seems like there's only a couple of decent games for the thing and the motion controls never really put you in control, and I hate that. The fact that they're good with it being ugly as all fuck bothers me too; Nintendo just really fucking likes to lose. Nintendo 64, let's make the games ugly as hell AND put them on expensive cartridges, discs are just a fad! Gamecube, why put out quality games when we can shoehorn them onto a 1gb disc and play with the worst-designed controller ever? Wii, let's take the Gamecube and slap on some motion controls- SORT of- but keep it ugly as hell so everyone laughs at us!
I mean, c'mon. Nintendo's been trailing behind for a long time, and the only interest they've really been able to garner has been through lack of supply. (The Wii wouldn't have been half as popular if it had been readily available at launch, but they stretched that cow out for over a year.)
I'm just kind of fed up with 'em- not to go on and on about it, but I want to play some good Nintendo games; I just hate that I'm saddled with shitty motion controls/shitty controllers to do it. The only games I play for any length of time anymore are the ones that let me use the gamecube controller or the light gun stuff- when that works (which so far is just House of the Dead 2 & 3 Returns). Add in that they're just lazy about putting out a quality system and I'm just tired of it. I loved the NES, loved the SNES, and loved the 64- even with the craptastic gfx and expensive-ass games- but if the next system they put out is even one step behind the others, it's gonna be the first one I don't bother purchasing, hype be damned.
I know, rant. I just want some classic Nintendo games that look and play well. Zelda looks N64-style ugly and the control looks like butt, and that just pisses me right off to no end- I already have the Twilight Princess for that.
On a separate rant, Kinect. WTF. From the start I was thinking, it's great that we can do all of this crap, but what about moving around? I figured they'd come up with some kind of alternative. Looking at the stuff they put out- especially the Star Wars game- it's obvious that they didn't. Just pisses me off because Sony has this crappy wand thing, BUT it has a nunchuck-style attachment with a control stick so you can walk around while laying the smacketh down. For all the tech involved- and the fact that we still have no idea how much Kinect is going to cost, while the Move is going to run about $80 if you already have the camera- I just would've expected a lot better from Microsoft out of the gate.
I have no doubt that Kinect will eventually have some good games- I just don't see it selling out on the power of what they showed, UNLESS they manufacture a shortage like Nintendo did.
Sony, on the other hand- fuck man, I wanna play Heroes on the Move!!! That game's gonna be fun as hell.

Hows about Rock Band 3! I don't know about you guys but I'm stoked outa my brain for this one. I can't believe they finally went all out with a real freaking guitar. I was never one of those ass wipes who said "plasic guitar is dumb why don't you learn a real instrument blah blah blah" becasue that's not what the game was about. It was always about enjoying the music that you love in an entirely new way by making you feel like you're part of the action. But even though I never felt like I was actually learning how to play these songs in any real fashion, I gotta say, the prospect of of being able to do it for real now is really exciting.
I wouldn've been happy if they left the guitar the way it was forever becasue personally, I just really enjoy interacting with all these great songs even if it is in a relatively simplistic 5-button-one-strum-bar way. I just never get tired of it, but now with the added keyboard and a whole new difficulty pro mode level and a real strat guitar (which I'm totally gonna get) I'm officially mega hyped.

I'm definitely excited about it, just didn't mention it because they were showing stuff about it the two weeks before E3- I saw pics of the guitar controller and still haven't seen any video of it being played once in all the E3 footage I've checked out. I'm just kind'a scared of how much it's gonna cost, that and the keyboard both, but I've always wanted to learn to play guitar and just haven't ever had the extra cash for lessons.
I think it'll be great, my only concern is, the strings will need to be replaceable- eventually they're gonna break. I mean, my friend Derek played bass and he was busting E strings all the time, and that's the thickest string you've got on a guitar.
Long as it's durable for the price, too- my wireless guitar is what, like 2 years old, and I've had probs with the 2 yellow buttons for a good year of that, so I'm hopeful that these will be made to some pretty exacting standards- I mean, full size + 6 buttons a fret? Whew.
Definitely gonna have to get the MadCatz bass controller too. I really wanna play bass more than guitar anyway.
Just reminds me, way back on the NES, they used to have a cartridge with a full keyboard that connected to the system that would teach you to play a full keyboard. Course, it cost $200 which is why I never got it, lol. But I'm just sort of amazed it's taken this long for a program of some sort to come along that will really teach people how to play.
Only thing I'm worried about is connectivity with the ION DrumRockers. Like, with mine, when I'm playing in the freestyle 'practice' mode, the game knows the difference between the cymbals and the pads- which just makes sense, cuz they plug into different jacks in the main body bit there- but with the way they're talking about adding cymbals and stuff, and the little body bit only has 8 jacks (4 pads, 3 cymbals, though you have to buy the extra one, and the foot pedal), I'm just hoping I don't get hosed into purchasing a whole new attachment- it's bad enough I don't have the 3rd cymbal or another foot pedal.
But I think even with the new instruments and whatnot, I don't think I'll always want to play with the new stuff- sometimes I'll just wanna relax with the old controllers like I already do, so it's all good.
But yeah. Totally stoked for it, just worried about the pricing.

They just keep wantin' ta contradict me. xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/28567/rock-band-3/videos/e310_rb3_inv_061610.htmlFuck. And I didn't know that they had 2 separate guitar controllers; I thought they were making the guitar and MadCatz was making the bass. (I thought that's what I read on rockband.com's forums; I'll have to check later.) Ends up there's 2 different controllers; one with buttons on the neck and 6 strings- the one I was talking about above- and one that's just a fucking guitar. Hrm.
