Gah!!! I just hit the breaking point where now I gotta vent
Ok I just got back from seattle yesterday, and so I've only gotten to play RB 3 for a relatively short amount of time - and overall the game is good stuff. sweet new menus, the new songs of course, the pro modes all that stuff (even though the mustang still isn't available here, so I haven't even gotten to try that yet)
BUT I keep noticing more and more all these little things that are missing from that game that were in RB2. There's a bunch of em, but the one that finally made me crack is the tattoos. GAH! they took away the ability to place tattoos anywhere like you use-ta-could on RB2 resulting in it being pretty much impossible to recreate the stuff I've made before. (There's a bit of a work-around that people have discovered where you can edit the tattoo after you create it thereby being able to place it where it couldn't have previously gone, but it'll take forever to figure out how to scale the original tiny version that you have to make in order to stretch it out super big later on, and the tiny little intricate specifics of complicated sleeves that I liked to make just cannot be done.)
Sorry if that last sentence was confusing but it just bugs me to hell because there's absolutely no reason for them to take that part out. They were always talking about adding more options for the customization, and all they did was ruin it. It would have been better if they just left it the way it was because all the new stuff they added like extra face options are pretty much garbage.
Also, I've noticed that the created characters in the game just aren't as "lively" as they were in RB2. They're more like slower moving robots along the lines of the recent suck-ass guitar hero games. This was one of the things I loved about RB2: that even though the character models were fairly simplistic, on stage they were animated INCREDIBLY. I played that game for 2 years straight with my created characters and I still saw fresh seemingly-new lively animations that looked like natural movements from real performences that were all character specific. Their faces and expressions and movements were so full of emotion (and different for each character I made with different attitudes) that I never got tired of watching them. Well in the short amount of time I've played RB3 it looks like they somehow took this magic out of the game! the characters look like dead robots in comparison.
Now maybe I'm just over reacting and it's true that I need to give the game more time and more experimentation, but so far this is my impression. The thing is, all these little gripes are what I loved about RB2 and I'm starting to wish more and more that future DLC were backward compatable (which they're NOT!) so that I could just go back to RB2.
Other little dissapointments include missing songs that were NEVER announced!
Black hole sun
Dani california
Give it away
Any way you want it
Battery
Spoonmman
(There's more, but these are the ones I care about, and some random dlc doesn't seem to be working for some reason)
Also the fact that clothes are unlocked by ridiculous instrument specific achievements like expert pro mode completion or hitting every damn note on all the songs in the game which means some clothes will be forever locked. What was wrong with the money thing? sure it took a long time to get enough money to buy good stuff but at least it made it POSSIBLE to get all the stuff. Some of the clothes are litterally impossible to get now.
Also it turns out that the stage kit is not compatable even though it was announced months ago that it would be. I LOVE the stage kit, it made the whole rock band experience extra awesome. Why the hell can't it continue to work? It worked for all the new DLC that came out all the way until RB3's release.
I haven't even tried to make Kunk's face paint yet because I'm dreading the dissappointment, but I'll use that stupid "work-around" technique to it's utmost limit and see what I can come up with.
I just had to come on here and vent. Rb2 is so perfect, all they needed to do was add stuff on. that's all! just add extra good things. Maybe polish the graphics a little. In fact they didn't even need to do that. Just give me the same god damn game with new songs and I would've been happy. The keyboard and pro mode was like beyond my wildest dreams so I was super stoked to hear about those additions, but GAHHH! I feel like it lost all the little good stuff it used to have in order to get these new features.
Maybe I play rock band a bit too much LOL
