Okay, fellas! We're finally gonna address that elephant in the room: OCW, YouTube, public videos and licensed music.
This year, in terms of simming and posting videos, we will NOT have any licensed music. The reasons are:
-the video will be muted
-I'll get a copyright strike
-so y'all ain't gonna hear it if I do anyway.
In terms of the fed and promos, you can say your music is any tune you want, that's not a problem. I'm going to put up a stickied thread here soon that has info that people might need if they're promoing involving your guys: signature & finisher names, in-fed themes, etc.
However, as far as videos, no, no licensed music. With that said, if we have a match with folks that don't have music, then I won't bother recording and posting the entrances- that's just wasted time.
HOWEVER. There are three options if you want music during your wrestlers' entrances:
Option #1: There is royalty free music out there. Now, some of it requires paying a fee. Some of it is flat-out free. Almost any of it you use requires posting something in the description either linking to the site where you got it, giving credit, etc.- it's going to be up to you to find music that can be used. I will have a list below of some places you can start. I have no problem putting credits in the description, or links. BUT it is up to you guys to make sure that the music CAN be used with videos that are monitized, because I monitize all of my vids. (And trust me, I'll be lucky to make a few cents off of it. I've made like a total of $4 on the non-OCW videos I've put up so far. This is the whole "it'll add up" thing, because I've got a lot of different videos that'll be popping up on YouTube in the coming months. Don't think I'm making a ton of cash off of the back of your characters. Frankly I'll probably be lucky to pull 50 cents off of the first years' worth of videos.)
Long story short: if you can find royalty-free music that can be used on monetized videos, you get me the link, the name of the track and the info, and I'll make sure that I'm abiding by their rules by using the track. Do NOT just send me the track. I need to know the track details to make sure we're all in compliance.
Option #2: Make your own music. Get the track and info to me and I'll pop a credit in the event video description. It doesn't have to be professional-quality- God knows mine won't be, because I'm planning on making my own music and I have no knowledge like at all of mixing, mastering, anything.
Option #3: Get a band to make some music for ya. There are a lot of local bands out there. Get me the track and contact information for the band in question, because I'm going to need to get them to give me some form of a release to use the music for videos including your character. As far as I'm concerned it can even be a cover song- there are tons of cover videos on YouTube. Nothing from a commercial artist or group though. This is a hobby, and I'm covering my butt. The first time I get a copyright strike that I can't fight and win, all entrances except those I know have legit original music will have to be nixed. I'm not trying to be a dick, just protecting my account and the fed.
So that's pretty much it. In promo, you can list your theme as whatever you want. In actual event videos, if you want music, you'll have to provide me with something to use that isn't going to get my ass hammered. Any match where the participants don't have music won't have entrances, which I'm cool with- I mean aside from any commentary I might yammer out during entrances, it isn't like they're super-entertaining anyway, most of the time. Though I would like to have the time to pimp the match and generally get my commentary on.
That said, here's a list of places that I know have royalty-free music (and I'm pretty sure at least most of them are free as well), where you can grab something to use. If you find other sites or groups willing to record stuff to get some publicity off of the OCW's video descriptions, drop the info here and I'll add it as we go!
